On Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June, Cortina hosts the 120km North Face Lavaredo Ultra Trail and, for the first time, the shorter version Cortina Trail of 50km.

The Lavaredo Ultra Trail is being held in Cortina for the first time and is a tough challenge taking in 6,000 vertical meters along a spectacular route of mountain tracks. The town is excited and proud to be hosting this prestigious event in the trail running calendar and to celebrate the hosting, the shorter race of the Cortina Trail is being held for the first time.

Organisers report that there are a number of British entries amongst the 1,200 participants in both events.

The Trail races come just a few weeks after the 30km Cortina-Dobbiaco race at the beginning of the month, which drew 4,500 participants from around the world.

These major international races serve as the perfect inauguration of a summer season full of thrills, adrenalin and total freedom to enjoy the Dolomite Mountains. Holiday offers, including short stays, weekends, and last minute proposals are available on cortina.dolomiti.org, which also details the many events in the coming months, covering rugby, golf, mountain biking, music, polo and vintage cars.

Cortina d'Ampezzo is the only Italian member of the prestigious European association Best of the Alps, an international quality trademark which brings together the 12 most famous and exclusive towns in The Alps.
